Pic of the Month

1 12 2008

This pic is not from a personal blog, it is not meant to be funny, but I laughed so hard when I saw it that I had to save it.  It was actually part of a serious news story which I have now forgotten because it could not have been nearly as important as capturing this precious image of the gigantic photo lady taking a picture of the starving Basket Carrier.  There is something so absurd about this picture that I can’t help thinking it is a Gary Larson Far Side comic.  I have a feeling that the AP photographer that captured this image is using for his or her Christmas Card… I’m thinking of doing it myself.american-phtog1

Desert Dash 5K

20 07 2008

Last night my friends Stephanie, Jayne, Charles and I ran a 5K race through the old abandoned train tunnels of Lake Mead. It was still 102 degrees at 9 o’clock last night, so that made it even more pleasant, but we had a great time anyway. We had to run with miners lights on our heads so we could see inside the tunnels, which really was cool. We also had flashers and glow sticks on us so that they could see us in case we would have fallen off the cliffs and rolled into the lake. Fortunately we were able to stay on our feet, and nobody ended up in the lake. We ended the night with a very late supper back at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas where we were staying and had far too much to drink to celebrate.

New improved driveway

28 05 2008

This weekend Scott, my handyman Brian and I spent Memorial Day working in my yard to create all new driveway landscaping. We picked out some cool terra cotta pots at Home Depot. Brian ran drip systems and lights to each pot. Scott and I planted Japanese Boxwood, hearts and flowers, and bottlebrush. There’s more to come!

“She’s fashion roadkill!”

9 04 2008

God knows we’ve all been there. you are up on a catwalk and forget which way to go. Do you walk straight ahead, turn to left, turn to the right, or do you merely sashay chante as RuPaul instructed us? This woman makes the bold decision of stepping off the runway and into “no man’s land” in the middle with dubious results. This all took place at world famous Charleston’s Fashion Week… yes Charleston has a fashion week and if this video is any indication, its a fairly new concept. I simply CANNOT stop laughing at this video, so I am going to post it and we can all enjoy it.

Of course I thought that this was funny until I realized what a terrible problem this was becoming. If Princess Diana were alive today, I think she would do a public service announcement about it.

But this tragedy does not just strike the fashion runway, it can also claim innocent pageant contestants like this Miss USA finalist

sicko

22 01 2008

I have been sick on my sofa for a couple of days now.  Nothing more than a bad cold, really.  I hate not feeling up to my best.  I had a pretty busy week last week.  I was busy at work, plus I had a charity cocktail party on Thursday night, so it was pretty crazy.  I woke up on Friday morning feeling like crap.  I had a cough and fever, but I had lots to do.  Fortunately for me I have the most awesome boyfriend who cooked for me and took care of me.

It has been a bit since I have posted a blog.  I have been so busy with work over the holidays.  I am on my way to Arkansas on Saturday to visit my family.  It has been months since I have seen any of them, so I am really excited to go visit them.  I have a love/hate relationship with my home state.  It is a beautiful and green place.  Many lakes and mountains and lots and lots of trees.  My whole family is there and I love them and I love visiting them.  The problem is that I don’t love being in Arkansas anymore.  It is an OK place to visit because of my family, but part of me will always hate the backward ass people who make up a large percentage of the state.  I have changed alot since I lived there, but the place has not… at all.

My family is great and I can’t wait to visit them and be with them again this weekend.  I have decided to visit more often, as a matter of fact.  I am planning a little cross country drive in the fall, and I hope that my guy Scott will come along.  I want to do a bit of an adventure.  Maybe just meet my family in Dallas and go to Six Flags.  I have been a big traveler for years, but now I want to do something different.  Lets see how I feel about it, after I give this a shot… haha.
